While reading The Complete Idiots Guide to Wicca and Witchcraft, I came upon a chapter differentiating between the different ways to to call entities from other realms. Apparently there are big differences between summoning, stirring, calling, inviting, and requesting!
According to the book, you Summon the entities that are close by and all around you, such as the Elements and the Elementals and Faeries. Other more powerful entities are Stirred, such as the Ancestors, Dragons and Watchtowers, because they are sleeping and need to be awakened before they can attend your ritual. You respectfully Call to the Lord and the Lady. When you Invite entities to your ritual, you ask them to be present but not to join you inside your circle, such as your familiar. You can Request the presence of the winds and of your spirit guides.

They didn’t mention Conjuring, but I can’t find anything online that discusses the difference between Conjuring vs the other actions. And to be honest, I’m not sure I’m going to remember all of this anyway!
So, agree with these distinctions or want to add some of your own?
